Daniel Auteuil blows a new sparkling life into Marcel Pagnol’s work in his remake of La trilogie marseillaise.
The first part Marius starts near the Old Marseille Port where César, the owner and his son Marius, manage the Bar de la Marine. It is filled with a warm atmosphere thanks to the regular patrons and their gossips. Have you heard that Mr. Panisse, that fiftyish old rich widower, asked Fanny, the shellfish merchant to marry him? Did you know she is only 18 and that she loves Marius, her childhood sweetheart? Well Marius is obsessed with sailing to exotic countries… Nobody knows, not even his father … Will Fanny lose her virtue to keep him?
The lines are delivered with incredible charm like superb Daniel Auteuil playing the vivaciously witty César opposite consummate actor Jean-Pierre Daroussin, a Marseille Canebière stand out figure in Guédiguian’s films. The couple Personnaz-Bélézy embodying innocent passion is just enchanting.
Marius is the Provençal sun from South of France shining on you!
