HOLD BACK, Wednesday, April 2 - 6:00pm

English Canada Premiere

Dorcy, a young black Christian, wants to marry Algerian Muslim Sabrina. There’s one snag in this modern tale.  Much like in Ali Baba and the forty thieves, Sabrina has 40 brothers. Slimane, the eldest takes to the streets of Paris to convince the others to stop this marriage.
A modern Romeo and Juliet, “black African with an Arab”, “it is also unflinchingly honest in depicting the various forms of racism and intolerance within the immigrant Algerian Muslim community” (Joe Bendel).
A film that hits you like a punch, powerful, overridden by rage, emotion, and humour too. A great achievement”  (Emmanuèle Frois).
“It is the explosive emergence of a voice that will be counting in French cinema” (Serge Kaganski).
A hand-held camera, close-ups on their faces, sound and images sometimes disconnected, this is how Rachid Djaïdani captures the larger than life performance of his actors with incredible energy drawing the audience into a close relationship with him.
“Witty, inventive Parisian guerrilla ghetto movie” (Chris Knipp).
“Churning with tension, comedy and hope, this is filmmaking from the heart” (Cork Film festival).
